Michael completed a post-graduate year at The Gunnery prior to attending Bowdoin College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government and Legal Studies with a minor in Classical Archaeology. At Bowdoin, Michael was a four-year varsity letter winner and the Pete Schuh Award recipient in 2008 for Ice Hockey. After graduating from college Michael taught history at Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY, where he was also the assistant varsity hockey coach and a dorm parent. Also at Northwood, Michael founded the gay/straight alliance on campus, served on the Faculty Development Steering Committee, and founded and led the first freshman trips to cultural venues in New York and Boston. Michael also taught inner city youth as part of the Prep@Pingree program at his alma mater, Pingree School. Michael received his M.Ed. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, with a concentration in Learning and Teaching. Michael recently served a one-year term on the Board of Directors of Speak About It, a non-profit that performs at colleges and high schools across the country educating young people about healthy relationships and consent. At Taft Michael teaches History, coaches hockey and lacrosse, and acts as dorm head of HDT 3, where he lives with his dog, Brutus.
